BIM Awareness – Stages of BIM Perspective

BIM as a Building Model
In the beginning stage, We merely understands that the BIM is a type of CAD model specifically developed for Buildings.It is not wrong but it not the clear understanding of the BIM.
Building Information Modelling
In this stage, We still becoming familiar with the BIM and focus on model geometry. As a Beginners We often think of BIM as little more than an extension of 3D modelling in this stage. We will aware of modelling, visualization, clash detection and other model coordination works. Most of the BIm users are in this stage of awareness
Building Information Modelling
Then,We understand that well organised , highly effective data-rich models are the basis of all BIM processes because of the BIM standards and guidelines that we have today. The majority of BIM users today are in this stage.
Building Information Management
In next stage , as BIM professionals we understand that value of good geometric models and well organised data and above all else we start recognize that BIM is concerned with process management;
So BIM evolves from Building Information Modelling to Building Information Management.,that is defining and executing workflows to manage digitally-enabled activities.
Building Knowledge Management
In this stage,we will start to process BIM based on the previous project knowledge. In this stage we will look the BIM industry in a Knowledge management perspective.(i.e.,)providing Knowledge of previous experience to the right person in right time in the BIM project.
Verdict
A holistic understanding of BIM covers all three aspects of geometry, information management and process management, and extended up to Knowledge management as illustrated in the image above. This is my definition of BIM, as Building Information Management.
